The Emergency Care Society of South Africa (ECSSA) is dedicated to uniting the out of hospital emergency care profession. We promote excellence through advocacy of inclusive education, credible research, and ethical clinical practice. These are underpinned by our unwavering support of the prehospital emergency care industry through professional guidance, policy advocacy, and system-strengthening initiatives. Our mission is to elevate emergency care provision—from frontline response to strategic leadership.
Our vision aims to advocate for out of hospital emergency medical care. Hereby empowering professionals, guiding professional and system development, and shaping a responsive, integrated, and future-ready emergency care sector for South Africa.

ECSSA champions the rights, recognition, and professional development of out of hospital emergency care workers in South Africa. It serves as a unified voice to represent their interests in clinical, educational, regulatory, and labour matters.

It is built by and for out of hospital providers, which makes its approach highly relevant and relatable. ECSSA prioritises grassroots engagement, often acting as a conduit between the workforce and broader healthcare or policy environments.

Through research support, educational initiatives, and collaborative partnerships, ECSSA actively works to uplift the standards of emergency medical care. It encourages continuous learning, clinical improvement, and innovation in the out of hospital space.
ECSSA aims to be the collective voice and support system for South Africa’s out of hospital emergency care workforce.
